The TIGER Scheme is currently limited to the UK, but the Scheme is in discussion with various organisations in Europe and the USA.
The Scheme is intended to be used by industry and by those sections of Government such as Local Authorities, that do not process national security information. Those parts of Government that do process protectively marked information are referred to the CHECK Scheme operated by CESG.
The TigerScheme Senior Tester qualification has been recognised by CESG as equivalent to the CHECK Team Leader Assault Course. Please note however that for national security information Government are still directed to the CHECK scheme.
The TIGER Scheme is based around a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee which contracts with other bodies to provide the Operating Authority (OA) and Examining Body (EB) services. A subset of the individuals on the Management Committee for the Scheme act as directors for the TIGER Scheme company.
Currently the Operating Authority is Silverthorn Associates Ltd and the Examining Body is the University of Glamorgan. The University of Glamorgan is a recognised leader in the field of vulnerability analysis and operates a related MSc course and is therefore well placed to act in the role of an EB.
Fees paid by candidates for certification are made up of an examination fee, an administration fee and a TigerScheme membership fee (3 years). Membership fees go towards covering the overheads of the Management Committee and Technical Panel, and the development of new standards and qualifications, where the Management Committee, acting on advice from the Technical Panel, feel that such a qualification would benefit the industry.
